The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert, warning of possible flash floods as thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected across various parts of the country on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
In its daily weather outlook released on Wednesday, July 9, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall over parts of the northern region, including Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Bauchi. Other northern areas are expected to see sunny skies with scattered clouds.
By afternoon and evening, more intense weather conditions are likely, with thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds projected in Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno.
In the North Central zone, early morning showers are expected in Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Niger. Later in the day, moderate rainfall is likely in the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Niger, and Plateau.
Southern states will begin the day with cloudy skies and light rain in parts of Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
Widespread moderate rainfall is forecast across the region in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet advised residents to remain cautious and prepare for possible flash floods, strong winds, and local disruptions due to the expected weather conditions.
