A devastating flood has displaced more than 200 households in Zogirma village, Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following a heavy downpour that destroyed homes, farmlands, and food stores.

The torrential rain, described by residents as one of the heaviest in recent memory, left hundreds stranded as water submerged homes, forcing families to flee with little more than the clothes on their backs.

In a swift response, Governor Nasir Idris visited the community on Thursday to sympathize with the victims and announced a relief donation of ₦50 million to support those affected.

“The government is fully committed to restoring normalcy and supporting this community through the crisis,” the governor stated during his visit.

Governor Idris also approved the renovation of the district head’s palace and announced that the Government Day Secondary School in Zogirma would be upgraded to a boarding facility.

An additional ₦10 million was donated to the District Head, Alhaji Mohammed Jambo Tele, to aid the palace renovation.

The District Head expressed gratitude, saying, “This visit clearly shows your commitment to the well-being of our people. We pledge our continued support.”

Chairman of Bunza LGA, Zayyanu Shehu Bunza, praised the governor’s prompt intervention, noting that the relief package would ease the hardship faced by the community.

Bello Yakubu, Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), confirmed that relief materials had already been dispatched. These include 100 bags each of rice, millet, and sorghum, as well as tomatoes and other essential items.

Governor Idris thanked the community for their continued support and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to good governance and sustainable development throughout the state.
