Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a private visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, Daily Trust has learned.
Buhari, who is reportedly receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the UK, was said to have initially been placed in intensive care but is now out of danger and steadily recovering.
According to a reliable source familiar with the matter, Shettima traveled to London on the night of Sunday two weeks ago and visited the former president the following Monday morning.
Daily Trusty reports that during the same trip, he also visited former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Responding to inquiries about the visit, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed that Shettima did travel to London, but emphasized that it was a private engagement.
On Monday night, concerns mounted over Buhari’s condition, with unconfirmed reports suggesting a possible deterioration in his health.
Repeated attempts to reach his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, were unsuccessful at the time.
However, in the early hours of Tuesday, Shehu responded to a text message from Daily Trust, stating briefly: “The information available to me is that he (Buhari) is in a recovery mode.”
