Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla during a late-night operation in Lafia.
The suspects, identified as Basiru Lawal from Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State and Dahiru Mohammed of Shinge Quarters in Lafia, were apprehended around 3am on Saturday while attempting to flee with the stolen car.
According to sources, the duo had earlier raided a residence at Shinge by Railway Quarters, carting away a Toyota Corolla with registration number GRU 106 AE and a Jincheng motorcycle.
Confirming the development in a statement on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said officers from the ‘B’ Division swung into action after receiving a distress call about the robbery.
“The Divisional Police Officer received a call around 3am concerning a robbery in progress at a residence in Shinge by Railway Quarters.
The suspects had already escaped with the stolen items, but the police quickly launched a manhunt,” the statement read.
Based on intelligence, the suspects were intercepted and arrested at Jibo Filling Station along Jos Road, Lafia, while in possession of the stolen Toyota Corolla.
Nansel added that efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover the stolen motorcycle.
He noted that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Describing the arrest as a significant achievement, the PPRO reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and tackling criminal activities across the state.
