Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a government contractor, Mr. Lucky Ugbo, in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, and are now demanding N100 million for his release.
Sources in the community told PUNCH Metro that the incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. four days ago at Ugbo’s residence along Isah Road.
The victim was reportedly seized at gunpoint by men disguised as security operatives.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants had laid an ambush in an uncompleted building near Ugbo’s home, waiting for him to return. As he approached his house, his wife came out to open the front door when the gunmen struck.
“They were heavily armed and dressed like security personnel. They fired shots into the air and then took him away on foot into the darkness,” one source said. “Many of us watched from a distance, thinking it was a security operation.”
Since the abduction, the kidnappers have contacted Ugbo’s wife twice.
The first call came on Sunday, during which they demanded N200 million. However, on Monday morning, they reduced the ransom to N100 million.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
He stated, “Yes, it’s confirmed. The police are intensifying efforts to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victim.”
As of the time of this report, Mr. Ugbo remains in captivity.
