The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, for allegedly masterminding the abduction of their elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu, along with other kidnapping activities in the region.
The siblings, both reportedly members of Nigerian security agencies—Juliet with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Ngozi with the Nigeria Immigration Service—are from Amaeze village in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
However, their affiliations have yet to be independently verified.
Investigations revealed that the sisters played a key role in the abduction of Friday Chukwu last month near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
Their alleged manipulation led to the payment of N30 million in ransom for his release.
The sisters were also linked to the July 14, 2025, kidnapping of Dennis Igwe, General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company, who was abducted along the same highway.
According to sources, they were caught in a hotel while attempting to divide a N10 million ransom paid for Igwe’s release.
Social media activist Comrade Chika Nwoba, who first shared the news online, urged authorities to treat the case seriously, alleging the sisters have been involved in a string of criminal activities in Ishiagu.
These include collaborating with armed herders to stage kidnappings, looting railway infrastructure, and vandalising pipelines.
“They’ve evaded justice multiple times,” Nwoba wrote. “This case must not be swept under the carpet. The NSCDC and Immigration Service must ensure proper disciplinary action is taken.”
The Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, confirmed the arrests, saying he had notified both the Enugu Police Command and the Ebonyi NSCDC Command despite the incidents occurring outside his jurisdiction.
“Yes, I’m aware. The sisters of Mr. Friday Chukwu have been arrested.
They claimed there are six members in their gang, and four are still at large,” Ajah told reporters. “We’re doing everything possible to ensure safety in our LGA.”
Efforts to obtain official comments from the police were unsuccessful.
Both the Ebonyi and Enugu State Police Commands failed to respond to multiple inquiries as of the time of this report.
