A 35-year-old hotel manager, Ene Adamu, was on Friday arraigned before the Karu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly embezzling ₦1.3 million from her employer.
Adamu, a resident of New Karu in Nasarawa State, is facing three charges: criminal breach of trust by a servant, theft by a servant, and criminal misappropriation. She pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, Loveline Lassa, of Plot 035, Ishan Road, Karu, on August 31, 2023.
Osho explained that the defendant, who worked as a manager at Plot 035 Hotel in Karu, allegedly diverted ₦1.34 million paid by customers into her personal bank account between January and July 2023.
“Several payments meant for the hotel were allegedly routed to the defendant’s personal account.
During the police investigation, she was unable to give a satisfactory explanation for the missing funds,” Osho stated.
The offences are said to be in violation of Sections 314, 289, and 309 of the Penal Code.
Presiding Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiwo granted Adamu bail in the sum of ₦1 million with one surety in the same amount and adjourned the case to July 31 for further hearing.
