The Kano State House of Assembly has refuted claims that it is preparing to investigate Hajiya Sa’adatu Yusha’u, the Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, calling such reports false and misleading.

The clarification was made in a statement issued by Mr. Kamaluddeen Shawai, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the House, in Kano.

Shawai explained that reports circulating on various online platforms alleging that the assembly had concluded plans to probe Yusha’u—who also chairs the Tudun Wada Local Government Council—over purported irregularities in land allocation, are entirely untrue.

He emphasized that the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Lawal Hussain-Dala, did not grant any interview or comment to any media outlet on the matter.

“The receipt of a petition by the Majority Leader from concerned citizens does not equate to the initiation of an investigation, nor does it imply any formal decision by the House,” Shawai said.

He condemned what he described as a deliberate distortion of legislative procedures, warning that the reports were intended to damage the reputation of both the Majority Leader and the Assembly.

Shawai stressed that the legislature conducts its affairs strictly in line with constitutional provisions and due process, noting that any formal investigation would follow established procedures, including the right to a fair hearing.

He further noted that while the Assembly remains open to receiving petitions from individuals or groups, such processes are always guided by transparency and the rule of law.

The Assembly has demanded that individuals and media outlets responsible for spreading the false report retract it and issue a public apology within seven days, or face legal consequences.
