The Students’ Union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has officially verified the death of the main suspect linked to the recent murder of two students, following a meeting with the Ondo State Commissioner of Police in Akure.
According to a statement signed by the Students’ Union President, Comrade Akeem Salami Ologbon, the Union leadership sought firsthand clarification from the police and proceeded to the morgue, where they confirmed the identity of the deceased as the key suspect in the case.
“After visiting the morgue with due permission, the Union can confirm that the body seen was indeed that of the individual believed to be responsible for the killings. This lays to rest all the circulating rumours,” the statement noted.
Also present during the meeting were leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), including Comrade ARAB, the Deputy Coordinator of the South-West Zone, and the newly elected Chairman of NANS JCC, Ondo Axis, Comrade INEC, along with other student stakeholders.
The engagement followed an earlier ultimatum issued by the Union, calling on the police to act swiftly and transparently in handling the murder case that has shocked the campus community.
During their visit, the delegation also went to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad facility, where two additional suspects are currently held. The Union confirmed the identities of those in custody matched the individuals previously shown in widely circulated photos.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police informed the delegation that the deceased had been battling a strange illness since his arrest and had been receiving medical attention before passing away.
