The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several of its members who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The decision was announced following a stakeholders meeting held in Lagos, comprising party elders and chairmen from the 20 local government areas of the state. Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Segun Edwards, spokesperson of the Elders Caucus and one of the local government chairmen, confirmed the expulsion.

Edwards said the meeting was convened to deliberate on the outcome of the PDP’s recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, and to chart a path forward for the state chapter.

According to him, the expulsion was unanimously endorsed by all elders present, who condemned the actions of the defectors. “They have desecrated the principles of the party by openly declaring for ADC while still holding on to PDP membership,” he said.

He added that the assembly unanimously moved and passed a motion to expel all members who publicly aligned with the ADC, effective immediately.

Beyond the expulsions, the stakeholders also directed local government chairmen to begin preparations for the party’s upcoming congresses, which are scheduled to take place between September and November.

These include congresses from the ward level up to the national convention.

“The party remains focused on rebuilding and strengthening its internal structure ahead of the next political cycle,” Edwards said.
