The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four farmers from Akpoha Autonomous Community in Afikpo Local Government Area.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped on July 24 while working on their farms by unidentified assailants, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, disclosed on Thursday that the Divisional Police Officer of the Afikpo Division had visited the scene to assess the situation and gather preliminary information.
“When I contacted the DPO, he confirmed that the division had visited the location and initiated a full-scale investigation,” Ukandu said. “Efforts are underway to rescue the victims, in collaboration with community and traditional leaders.”
Ukandu assured the public that the police are committed to uncovering the motive behind the abduction and bringing those responsible to justice.
He added that further details will be made available upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
