More than 30 terrorists were reportedly neutralised during a precision airstrike conducted by the Nigerian Air Force under Operation Fagan Yamma (OPFY) in Zamfara State on Sunday, August 4.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of OPFY, the airstrike targeted terrorists who had gathered at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area, for a wedding ceremony.
The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, focused on a large gathering of insurgents from the Faskari and Kankara axis in Katsina State, along with other elements operating within Zamfara.
“The precision strike led to the neutralisation of several terrorists, while others sustained critical injuries and were evacuated to Yankuzo village by their comrades for treatment,” the statement read.
Following the air raid, ground troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY launched a follow-up operation in the early hours of Monday, August 5. During the advance, soldiers reportedly fought through an ambush set up along the route to the village.
Local sources and community residents confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were killed in both the airstrike and the subsequent ground assault.
Additionally, four terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA were said to have been critically injured.
The military said the successful operation has brought significant relief to residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities, which have endured repeated attacks and harassment by armed groups.
Operation Fagan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
