The family of a 63-year-old retired soldier, Christopher Ogbodo, who was allegedly murdered while working as a night security guard, has called on the Nigeria Police to expedite efforts to arrest and prosecute his killers.
Ogbodo, a native of Ikem in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly killed on July 1, 2025, while guarding a petrol station under construction along the Nsukka-Ugwogo Nike Road.
Speaking to journalists in Enugu, the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Ngozi Ogbodo, described the incident as a cold-blooded murder and decried what she termed a slow and unresponsive investigation by security authorities.
“My husband spoke with me on the phone the same day he was murdered. Since then, the police have made no meaningful progress in identifying those responsible,” she said.
She also expressed frustration over the attitude of the station’s management, noting that neither the owner nor the station manager had reached out to the family or cooperated fully with the police.
“The station manager, who should have vital information, has not come forward.
Even the owner has neither contacted us nor been invited for questioning. It’s deeply troubling,” she added.
While insisting that she is not accusing the police of foul play, Mrs. Ogbodo urged investigators to question all individuals connected to the station to unravel the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.
“It’s been over a month since my husband was killed, yet those who should be answering questions are still walking free.
This is not justice. His death must not be swept under the carpet,” she said tearfully.
The grieving widow also appealed for the release of her husband’s body for burial, even as investigations continue.
“Even animals have owners. My husband was a human being, a father, and a breadwinner. His killers should not go unpunished,” she pleaded.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get a response from the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful, as inquiries sent to the command’s spokesperson remained unanswered.
