His family, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed that the elder statesman passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather,” the statement read, describing him as a man of “integrity, service, and dedication to the nation and community.”

The family said details of the funeral arrangements would be announced later, while requesting privacy as they mourn.

They also expressed gratitude to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their prayers and support.
