Legacy FM, a privately owned radio station in Ebonyi State, has suspended its acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, over alleged persistent criticism of Governor Francis Nwifuru and his administration.

The station announced the suspension in a statement on Saturday, citing “unruly behaviour” and violation of its code of conduct. Chikwere was directed to hand over all company property to the next senior officer.

Sources said the action followed remarks Chikwere made on air and on social media, accusing the governor’s administration of poor communication, underperformance by appointees, and lack of clear policy direction.

In a Facebook post on Friday, he urged Nwifuru to take tougher decisions, claiming the current approach was weakening the governor’s support base.

Reacting, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, described the comments as baseless and ungrateful, noting that the state government had supported the station with a vehicle, a transformer, and road construction to its premises.

He accused Chikwere of turning the station into “a slaughter house” for the governor’s development efforts.

The state Commissioner for Information, Ikeuwa Omebeh, also condemned the remarks, calling them “derogatory and inciting” and an affront to the people of Ebonyi State.
