An Ogun State High Court has restrained Governor Dapo Abiodun and officials of the state government from demolishing properties belonging to former governor Gbenga Daniel, including his Sagamu GRA residence, Asoludero Court, and Conference Hotels Limited.

Justice O.S. Oloyede granted the interim order on Tuesday after an ex parte application by Daniel and his wife, Olufunke, through their counsel, A.M. Kotoye (SAN).

The order bars the defendants, their agents, or proxies from tampering with or interfering in any way with the listed properties pending the determination of a motion on notice.

In his ruling, Justice Oloyede said the court found it necessary to act urgently to protect the claimants’ right to quiet possession of the properties.

The suit has been adjourned to August 19, 2025, for hearing on the substantive application.

Daniel had at the weekend accused Abiodun of ordering the demolition of his residence and hotels, describing the move as politically motivated. Notices of contravention, quit, and demolition were allegedly pasted on the properties on August 8.

However, Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, denied any political motive, insisting the notices were part of a routine land audit under the government’s urban renewal programme.

He said all affected property owners in the GRA, including Daniel, were required to present their documents for verification.
