Three people lost their lives on Sunday in Auchi, Edo State, when two trucks and a Mercedes-Benz GLK were involved in a fatal crash near the Omega Fire Ministry.
The accident, which occurred around midday, involved a Dangote Cement truck, another unidentified truck, and the Benz. All three occupants of the Benz died in the crash.
In a video recorded by a church member shortly after the incident, eyewitnesses could be heard calling for the arrest of the truck driver, claiming the Dangote truck rammed into several vehicles in front of the church.
The Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, described the tragedy as avoidable.
He blamed it on the recklessness of untrained and overworked truck drivers, adding that many operate without proper licenses or supervision.
“These deaths are avoidable,” Suleman said. “Trucks of that organisation keep claiming lives across the country.
Beyond government fixing roads, companies must stop putting untrained drivers behind the wheel. Citizens also have a responsibility.”
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command, Moses Yamu, said the crash involved the two trucks and the Benz.
He noted that the victims were evacuated to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
Yamu added that the Dangote truck caught fire but was later extinguished, while investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
