Authorities in Libya have arrested a man and his mother for allegedly attempting to smuggle six undocumented Nigerian migrants in the Sirte region.
The suspects were intercepted on Sunday, August 17, 2025, during a routine patrol by operatives of the Abu Najim Police Department.
Migrant Rescue Watch, an organisation monitoring migration activities, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, saying the duo was caught while transporting the migrants in a vehicle.
“Abu Najim Police Dept. (Sirte) seized a vehicle and arrested a Libyan driver, identified as ‘A.M.M,’ accompanied by his mother, for attempted human smuggling of six undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality. All have been referred to competent authorities for legal action,” the group stated.
