The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Tuesday confirmed the derailment of one of its Abuja-Kaduna train services.

According to the corporation, the incident occurred at about 11:09 a.m. at Kilometer 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.

In a statement released via its official X handle, the NRC said emergency rescue and medical personnel had been deployed to the scene, while nearby hospitals and security agencies had also been mobilised.

“All passengers are being moved safely back to Abuja,” the corporation assured, adding that efforts were underway to restore normal operations.

The NRC appealed for calm, noting that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the cause of the derailment.

As of press time, the number of passengers affected had not been confirmed.
