The Ondo State Police Command has detained and prosecuted three individuals over an alleged POS fraud that led to the loss of more than N600,000 in Akure.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, made this known in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the arrests followed a complaint lodged by a local trader.
According to the police, the incident was reported on March 19, 2026, by Mrs. Obadaye Omotola, a shop owner at Ire-Akari in Akure.
The statement noted that the suspects posed as customers and engaged the trader in what appeared to be a genuine purchase.
“They diverted her attention during the transaction and carried out a deceptive exchange of her POS terminal,” the police said.
Investigators said the suspects also memorised the victim’s PIN and later used the stolen device to move N632,000 from her account into accounts linked to them.
Acting on the report, police operatives carried out a targeted operation that resulted in the arrest of Adeyemo Joshua, Opemiposi Olawale, and Oluwashola Blessing, while another accomplice is still being hunted.
The command confirmed that the suspects have been arraigned and remanded, adding that efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen money and track down other members of the group.
