The naira yesterday appreciated to N1,540 per dollar in the parallel market, strengthening from N1,545 per dollar recorded over the weekend.

In the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the local currency also firmed to N1,527.5 per dollar, its strongest level since July 3.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the exchange rate closed at N1,527.5 per dollar, compared to N1,531 last weekend, reflecting a gain of N3.5 for the naira.

As a result, the gap between the parallel market and NFEM rates narrowed to N12.5 per dollar, down from N14 per dollar on Friday.
