Police operatives in Anambra State have rescued a 28-year-old man, Okwudili Onyiba, who attempted to end his life by climbing a high-tension electricity pole in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening behind Grace of God Mission, off NEPA Road, Awada. According to the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers from the Awada Division swiftly responded after receiving a distress call.

The area was immediately cordoned off to avert danger while officers and members of the public engaged Onyiba in dialogue.

After several minutes of persuasion, he agreed to come down safely.

Police said the intervention not only prevented a tragedy but also ensured the safety of onlookers who had gathered at the scene.
