An Ibadan-based journalist, Ojo Peter, has been killed in a daylight robbery attack along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred on August 18, 2025, but was initially believed to be health-related until his younger brother, Enahoro Peter, confirmed that he was shot by suspected robbers who targeted him for the cross bag he carried.
Eyewitnesses said the journalist pleaded with his assailants, insisting the bag contained no money, but they shot him in the back before fleeing with it.
His phone, later found damaged at the scene, was used by the police to contact his family.
Ojo, a former reporter with Parrot Extra and Daily Monitor, was mourned widely after the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) announced his death on September 7.
The Oyo State Police Command said investigations led to the arrest of one suspect, while another died during a confrontation with operatives.
Command spokesperson CSP Adewale Osifeso disclosed that the suspects, intercepted on a motorcycle around Imolefalafia, had also been linked to a separate robbery and shooting at Anfani Junction the same day.
He assured that investigations are ongoing and pledged that updates will be provided as the case develops.
