The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, 2025, commission two newly completed roads and flag off the construction of 12 others across the Federal Capital City.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the initiative also includes the rollout of solar-powered streetlights in major districts and expressways under the Light-Up Abuja Programme.
The projects scheduled for commissioning include access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District, as well as ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.
Between September 18 and October 16, the minister will launch 14 new projects, among them the development of Arterial Road N1 linking Wuye District to Ring Road II, construction of the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and access roads to the Mabushi Bus Terminal and the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates site in Karsana West.
Also listed are the provision of access roads bypassing the Airport Second Runway, construction of erosion-control bridges in Kaura District, development of Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro, rehabilitation of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road, and the provision of engineering infrastructure to outstanding layouts in Guzape District.
Other projects include the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) in Katampe, as well as new official residences for the heads of key federal courts, including the Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and the Industrial Court.
The Light-Up Abuja solar streetlighting scheme will cover Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi and Katampe Extension.
The announcement comes weeks after Wike flagged off expansion of water supply to satellite towns in Bwari and Karu, and launched new infrastructure projects including a multipurpose sports centre in Kafe District, a Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and emergency reconstruction works on Karu Road.
