The Lagos State Government has begun a probe into a viral video that shows some students indulging in smoking and drinking alcohol inside a hostel.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, said in a statement that the students are suspected to be from Excel College, Ejigbo.

He said the behaviour captured in the footage was disturbing and runs contrary to the values and standards expected in the state’s education system.

According to him, the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has deployed a monitoring team to confirm the authenticity of the video, identify those involved and assess the level of supervision in the school.

The Commissioner added that talks had already started with the school authorities, stressing that any institution indicted would face disciplinary measures in line with state education regulations.

“The safety, well-being, and moral values of all students remain paramount to the Lagos State Government. We are committed to ensuring that all learning environments are safe, disciplined, and conducive to the academic and moral growth of every learner,” he said.
