President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Afriland Properties Limited over the deaths recorded in Tuesday’s fire outbreak at the Afriland Tower on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
At least seven people have been confirmed dead following the incident, with many others sustaining injuries.
Among the victims were four FIRS staff members, while several survivors remain hospitalized across Lagos.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Tinubu also praised the efforts of emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, medical teams, and members of the public, whose swift action helped in the evacuation of occupants of the high-rise.
He further called for greater caution, training, and preparedness to prevent such tragedies in the future, stressing the need for vigilance in commercial buildings.
The Afriland blaze was one of two separate fire incidents that rocked the Lagos Island business district on Tuesday, leaving several people injured and goods worth millions of naira destroyed.
