Two young men have been brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing four mobile phones during a church service.

The defendants, Emmanuel Nkemakonam, 24, and Lateef Azeez, 20, were charged with conspiracy and theft. Both pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor ASP Simon Uche told the court that the incident occurred on September 2 at a church in Ojo, where the defendants allegedly stole a Redmi and three Itel phones belonging to Joshua Godspower, Israel Adenola, Emmanuel Okasi, and Nnamdi Obaji. The phones were said to be valued at N448,000.

Uche noted that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to October 3 for mention.
