A Magistrate Court in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has ordered the remand of a 57-year-old sawmiller, Fatai Quadri, after a viral video showed him brutally assaulting his wife, Rukayat Quadri.

The incident, which occurred on September 15, 2025, at their residence in Illese-Ijebu, sparked outrage after footage captured Quadri repeatedly hitting his wife with his fists and a stick. The assault left the 50-year-old victim with multiple injuries.

Quadri was arraigned on Monday before Magistrate P.O. Odunsi and faced multiple charges including assault, domestic violence, breach of peace, and intimidation, as outlined in the charge sheet.

He was accused of threatening his wife’s life over a dispute concerning a 10-room apartment reportedly transferred to another woman.

Prosecutors said his actions violated provisions of both the Ogun State Criminal Code and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.

The magistrate adjourned the case until October 17, when the court will hear arguments on the suspect’s bail application.

The Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed his arrest, noting that the assault stemmed from allegations of infidelity.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the victim is receiving medical treatment while investigations continue.

Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence, warning that offenders will face the full weight of the law.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), described the attack as “very reprehensible,” assuring that the state government will pursue the case diligently.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Adijat Adeleye, pledged government support for the victim, stressing that justice would be served.
