Security operatives in Plateau State have intensified a search operation in the forests of Jos North Local Government Area following the abduction of a member of the state House of Assembly.
The legislator was seized on Monday night in Dong community by gunmen who reportedly masked their faces. Eyewitnesses said the attackers struck around 7:30 p.m. while the lawmaker was waiting for his security aide to open his gate.
“They forcefully dragged him from his vehicle and whisked him away to an unknown destination. Since then, we have not seen him,” a resident, Moses Pam, told journalists.
Pam added that security agents arrived at the residence on Tuesday morning and immediately began combing the surrounding bushes in search of the victim.
“We pray that they catch the perpetrators and rescue the lawmaker because he has not done anything wrong to warrant this,” he said.
The incident comes amid rising insecurity in Dong community. On September 14, gunmen abducted a corps member and a 300-level University of Jos student from the area, heightening calls by residents for stronger security measures across Plateau State.
