The Federal Government has called off the parade earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Although no reason was given for the cancellation, the government stressed that the decision does not lessen the significance of the celebration.
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” the statement read. “The government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm.”
It added that all other activities lined up for the anniversary, themed Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation, will proceed as planned.
The Federal Government expressed regret over any inconvenience the cancellation may cause and urged Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda.
The government had earlier declared Wednesday, October 1, a public holiday to mark the anniversary.
