Wike flags off FCT road project, promises June 2026 completion

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, yesterday flagged off the construction of a road linking Bill Clinton Drive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the Tunga Madaki community in Abuja.

The project, which will connect 10 communities to the airport road, is expected to extend to Zuba Road in the future.

Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Wike explained that the road, which bypasses the airport’s second runway, was a direct fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to nine affected communities whose land was acquired for the second runway.

The Minister said, “One of the things that the communities asked for is that they had to be connected and linked up with roads; it would be quite unfair that their land was collected for a second runway, yet they have no access to even go to the airport. It does not make sense. I had to take this matter to the President, and Mr. President said, ‘Whatever they ask for, give it to them’.”

He stressed that the project reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda and underscores the Tinubu administration’s resolve to listen to the people and deliver on its promises.

He said, “For the first time in your life, you have come to a government, and the government said, what do you want? The only request you have made is a reasonable request. We must attend to you, and today we are attending to you. What does this show? It shows you that the government of Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a listening government, it’s a government that cares for the people, it’s a government that makes promises and fulfils the promises made.”

Wike expressed confidence that the road would be completed and inaugurated in June 2026 as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

He also urged the benefiting communities to rally behind the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, whom he credited for pushing their demand for the road project.

The Minister told them to “remember the man who remembered you during the rainy season.”
