The Ondo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the reported assault on the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and their son, Prince Victor Bakare.
The incident, which occurred on Friday in the Ishara quarters of Idogun, Ose Local Government Area, was said to have disrupted the town’s New Yam Festival celebrations. Prince Victor, who had returned home for the festival, was allegedly beaten by some youths in the community.
Narrating his ordeal to journalists at the palace, Prince Victor, with visible injuries, claimed the assailants subjected his family to humiliation. He alleged: “the youths poured urine and other dirty substances on me for reasons best known to them.”
He also said the youths stripped his mother half-naked and molested his father, the monarch.
Oba Bakare described the development as “unfortunate,” lamenting what he called recurring hostility from some youths in the town. The monarch, however, commended the police for their swift intervention, which prevented the violence from escalating further.
The Amotekun Corps Coordinator in Idogun, Mr. Omatayo Johnson, confirmed that security operatives acted quickly to restore calm in the community.
Spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olusola Ayanlade, assured that the matter was being thoroughly investigated. According to him, “The case is under investigation and we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served.”
