The Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun, Brigadier-General Isaac Omoyele (rtd), on Monday night narrowly escaped an assassination attempt after armed men opened fire on his vehicle along Ikirun Road in Osogbo.

The attack reportedly occurred around 10:05 p.m., shortly after Omoyele left the Amotekun Corps Headquarters for his residence. Witnesses said the gunmen, who were heavily armed, ambushed the commander’s private vehicle and riddled it with bullets before fleeing the scene.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu Abass, said the matter has been reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division in Osogbo.

He added that Omoyele sustained gunshot injuries and was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, where he remains under close medical and security watch.

“The Commander sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

His condition is said to be stable, and he is under protective watch,” Abass said.

He further disclosed that investigations have commenced to uncover those behind the attack, though no group has yet claimed responsibility and the motive remains unclear.
