Tension has intensified within the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a faction within the party, known as Kick Against Deceit (KAD), has rejected the outcome of the recently concluded state congress, alleging manipulation and lack of transparency.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Protem Director of Public Communications, Hon. Bamidele Ojo, the group described the exercise as “deceitful” and “stage-managed” to favour a few influential leaders at the expense of equity and fairness.
Ojo said the group held a meeting in Akure, chaired by Olaniyi Ogungbuji, where members expressed disappointment over the conduct of the congress and resolved to challenge its outcome before the party’s national leadership.
He accused party officials of violating earlier assurances that the congress would retain existing positions across the three senatorial districts and only allow continuity for officers who had not exceeded eight years in office.
“We were told that the congress would maintain the current party positions in the respective senatorial districts and return those who have not spent up to eight years in office.
But what was preached was not followed in any way,” Ojo said.
The group further alleged that some local governments were unduly favoured with both national and state positions, while others were completely sidelined based on the influence of certain political heavyweights.
Describing the outcome as a “charade,” KAD warned that the development could weaken the party’s unity and jeopardize its chances in the 2027 general elections if not urgently addressed.
