A 30-year-old woman, identified as Adams Hannafi, has reportedly taken her own life by hanging herself from a tree in Sumore village, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, threw residents of the quiet community into shock.

A resident told Daily Post that the deceased, a mother of four, had been battling mental health challenges before the tragic act.

Her body was reportedly discovered by passersby, who immediately alerted security operatives in the area.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said a team of officers from the Yalwawa Division rushed to the scene after receiving the report.

“On arrival, the police found the woman’s lifeless body hanging from a tree. It was carefully lowered and examined, and no foul play was suspected,” he said.

Shiisu added that the body was taken to Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the deceased had a history of mental illness.

She is survived by her husband and four children.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed sadness over the incident and urged families to show care and support to relatives showing signs of emotional or psychological distress.

He also advised the public to seek medical and psychological help early enough to prevent similar tragedies.
