Two people were killed and several others injured after armed men, suspected to be Fulani militias, attacked Wereng community in Riyom Local Government Area on Tuesday night.

Eyewitnesses said over 100 heavily armed gunmen stormed the village, opening fire indiscriminately.

One victim, Joshua Monday, reportedly died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries on the way to the General Hospital in Riyom.

Residents said others fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence. Security forces, including army troops, reportedly arrived shortly after the attack to restore order.

Attempts to reach Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alabo Alfred, for official confirmation were unsuccessful, as his phone was reportedly switched off.
