Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have cleared multiple terrorist hideouts in Taraba State, recovering weapons, uniforms, and other items in renewed counterterrorism operations tagged Operation Lafiya Nakowa.

A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, on Wednesday, said the operation followed credible intelligence on the presence of suspected terrorists around Badekoshi, Fajul, Kurmi, and Dampar villages in Ibi Local Government Area.

“On October 14, 2025, troops deployed at Tapga Ngasawa village under Dampar District received intelligence on the terrorists’ movement.

Acting swiftly, they launched a series of clearance operations in the identified locations,” the statement said.

According to Muhammad, troops made contact with the terrorists at Badekoshi, forcing them to flee toward Fajul village.

“The gallant troops pursued the fleeing criminals with superior firepower, compelling them to abandon their positions and escape deeper into the forest,” he added.

Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, one round of 7.62mm special ammunition, five rounds of blank ammunition, two fragmental jackets, two military camouflage uniforms, and a Jincheng motorcycle suspected to have been stolen during a previous attack at Tapga village.

The Commander, 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, urging them to sustain the tempo until criminal elements are completely eradicated from the state.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all law-abiding citizens and will continue to collaborate with other security agencies and local communities to achieve lasting peace in Taraba,” the statement added.

Earlier, on October 1, 2025, the Brigade had foiled a terrorist attack at Tor-Ikyeghgba village, neutralising two suspects after a fierce gun battle.
