The Ondo State Government has taken another decisive step toward the realization of the Ondo Diaspora Smart City Project with the inauguration of a technical committee by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The project, described as a world-class residential and investment hub, is designed to attract Nigerians in the Diaspora and foreign investors eager to explore opportunities in the State.

Chaired by the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, the technical committee comprises Permanent and Administrative Secretaries from key ministries including Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Environment, Commerce and Industry, Physical Planning, Information, Justice, Culture and Tourism, and the State Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA).

During the committee’s inaugural meeting in Akure, Akinlosotu praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership and commitment to inclusive governance, describing the initiative as a major pillar of the administration’s “OUR EASE” agenda.

He noted that the Smart City project would stimulate the economy through tourism, job creation, and increased foreign investment, while also boosting the State’s internally generated revenue. “The constitution of this committee shows Mr. Governor’s determination to harness the potential of our Diaspora community for the growth of Ondo State. The Smart City will attract investment, promote innovation, and redefine urban living,” he said.

The Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Mr. Olakunle Ajibade, explained that the project had been in development since 2024 and represents a forward-looking move toward a technology-driven, eco-friendly urban future.

Also, the Administrative Secretary of ONDIPA, Mr. Emmanuel Omomowo, stressed the importance of private sector participation to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability and impact.

The Ondo Diaspora Smart City is envisioned as a model for green infrastructure, innovation, and industrial growth—positioning Ondo State as a hub for modern urban development and the digital economy.
