A Magistrates’ Court in Kano State has ordered the remand of a woman, Aisha Ibrahim Na’ibawa, in a correctional facility for allegedly defaming a police officer.
Na’ibawa was accused of circulating false information claiming that the officer was involved in drug abuse and engaged in inappropriate relationships with men.
During Monday’s proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Awaisu Sani Lawan, read the charges to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Barrister Aminu Nura, sought bail for his client, arguing that she was entitled to bail pending the conclusion of her trial.
However, the presiding judge reserved ruling on the bail application until October 23.
Pending the court’s decision, Na’ibawa was ordered to be remanded in a correctional facility.
