Four toddlers were fatally stabbed on Thursday at a kindergarten in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, in a shocking attack that has left the community in mourning.

According to police, the suspect, a man, gained entry to the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Makindye Division by posing as a parent before launching the brutal assault.

The victims, reported to be between two and three years old, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Efforts by enraged residents to apprehend the suspect turned violent as he attempted to flee, forcing security personnel to intervene and take him into custody, police spokeswoman Racheal Kawala confirmed.

“We confirm a tragic incident where four young children were brutally killed at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind this act,” Kawala said.

Videos circulating on social media captured the heartbreak of parents outside the school, anxiously seeking information about their children and demanding answers from authorities.

The school has since been sealed off as investigations continue.

PROMPT NEWS reports that incidents of such extreme violence against children are uncommon in Uganda, making the attack all the more shocking to the nation.
