Tragedy struck in the Badore area of Ajah, Lagos State, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, when a tricycle rider was killed by a stray bullet during a suspected cult attack near a brothel.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the yet-to-be-identified victim had gone to the brothel to relax after work but stepped out briefly to buy an item from a nearby shop when gunmen opened fire in the area.
According to a police source, the assailants, believed to be members of a cult group, stormed the neighbourhood in a blue Toyota Corolla and began shooting sporadically.
One of the bullets struck the tricycle rider, killing him instantly.
“We were told the man had finished work and went to unwind at the brothel.
He stepped out to buy bottled water when the shooters drove by and started firing. A stray bullet hit him, and he died on the spot,” the source said.
A resident, who asked not to be named for security reasons, said the attack was targeted at a rival cult member but the tricycle rider was caught in the crossfire.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the victim’s body was found at the scene the following morning.
“The police were alerted to the incident on Monday morning.
The body was recovered and deposited in the morgue before being released to the family for burial,” Adebisi said.
The killing adds to a series of cult-related shootings that have recently occurred in parts of Lagos, raising renewed concerns about public safety in the state.
