Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Eleyewo, a community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, as a middle-aged farmer, identified as Baba Apana, reportedly took his own life by consuming a bottle of Sniper insecticide.

Residents told reporters that the deceased, believed to be in his mid-50s, left for his farm early in the day without his mobile phone, a move they described as unusual.

According to eyewitnesses, he allegedly purchased a bottle of sniper around Ilu Abo before proceeding to his farm, where his lifeless body was later discovered.

As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the act remains unknown.

The deceased, who hailed from Ogoja in Cross River State, had lived in the community for several years and was survived by three children.

His remains have been deposited in a morgue.
