The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Kingsley Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic.
Ude’s confirmation followed his screening on the floor of the Red Chamber.
Born in 1978, the new minister previously served as Enugu State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
During the session, senators quizzed him on national and diplomatic issues, including Nigeria’s reaction to recent threats from United States President Donald Trump.
Responding, Ude said President Bola Tinubu was handling the matter through diplomatic channels, stressing that it was “a matter of diplomacy rather than law.”
He also weighed in on the debate over separating the offices of the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, saying success in either structure depends on the integrity and independence of the occupant.
The Senate, satisfied with his responses, asked him to take a bow and subsequently confirmed his nomination.
Ude replaces Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned following a certificate scandal.
