Two persons lost their lives yesterday in a ghastly motor accident along the Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway, shortly after the Isiala Ngwa Junction in Abia State.
About ten other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The crash involved an 18-seater white Toyota bus belonging to a popular transport company operating within the state.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle, which took off from Umuahia en route to Aba, veered off the highway after one of its tyres burst while in motion.
The bus reportedly somersaulted several times before landing in a nearby bush.
One of the witnesses, Chimezie McLawrence, blamed excessive speed for the crash and advised commercial drivers to exercise caution while on the road.
FRSC officials were seen at the scene coordinating rescue operations and clearing the wreckage to ensure free flow of traffic.
