Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a 50-year-old driver, identified as Ya’u Inuwa, over the theft of a white Toyota Hilux belonging to the Kano State Government House.

The vehicle, reportedly attached to the Governor’s Advance Team, was said to have gone missing from the Government House premises on November 11, 2025.

Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said the suspect, who works as a driver at the Government House, confessed to conspiring with two others currently at large to steal the vehicle.

According to Haruna, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, had ordered the immediate closure of all entry and exit routes in the state and directed operatives to recover the vehicle and apprehend those behind the incident.

“Following sustained follow-up and intelligence-led investigations, operatives arrested one Ya’u Inuwa, a 50-year-old driver at the Government House, in connection with the theft.

The stolen Hilux was recovered at Unguwa Uku, Yan Awaki Quarters, Kano, and is currently in police custody,” Haruna stated.

He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the two fleeing suspects as investigations continue.
