The National Secretariat B of the Peoples Democratic Party, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, was on Wednesday sealed off by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force amid escalating tensions between rival factions of the opposition party.
The development follows the violent clash on Tuesday between the Saminu Turaki-led group and loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The confrontation, which threw the secretariat into chaos, saw Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, teargassed as security operatives attempted to control the situation.
When DAILY POST visited the facility on Wednesday, officers had mounted barricades reinforced with barbed wire, effectively shutting out party members and staff from the premises.
None of the factional leaders was seen around the secretariat, leaving only a few police personnel on duty.
However, supporters loyal to the Kabiru Turaki-led camp openly condemned the police action, insisting that the blockade was aimed at stifling their group.
The crisis has further heightened concerns over the deepening internal rifts threatening the stability of the PDP.
