The lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Okey Ezea, popularly known as Ideke, has died.

He passed away on Tuesday while receiving medical care in the United Kingdom.

Ezea, a frontline Labour Party figure and the last serving LP federal lawmaker from Enugu State, was said to have travelled abroad for treatment before his demise.

Confirming the development, an elder statesman and close associate, Chief Nkem Ossai, described the late senator as “a man with a heart of gold” whose death had thrown Nsukka and the entire Enugu North zone into deep mourning.

According to Ossai, the news of Ezea’s death shocked residents and political supporters, particularly because the senator had reportedly recovered from a partial stroke just three months ago.

“It’s a sad day. Nsukka has been thrown into mourning. Enugu North has lost a dedicated man who vowed to restore and develop his senatorial zone.

The atmosphere has been sombre since the news broke,” he said.

Ezea’s passing is seen as a major blow to the political landscape of Enugu State, with many describing his death as a significant loss to the region’s quest for renewed representation and development.
