Several Nigerian soldiers were injured after terrorists ambushed troops deployed to rescue abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

The attack came just a day after the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered Operation Fasan Yamma personnel to intensify efforts against the bandits responsible for the kidnapping of students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

“You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children,” Shaibu instructed, urging commanders to rely on actionable intelligence and to conduct operations decisively.

He stressed that the mission was not only about protecting the Army’s reputation but ensuring the safety of innocent lives.

Following the directive, troops launched a 24-hour rescue operation.

During the mission, terrorists ambushed the soldiers, leaving several wounded. Video footage obtained by DAILY POST showed injured troops awaiting medical assistance, with one victim reportedly saying in Hausa: “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”

The soldiers’ vehicle was also damaged, sustaining multiple bullet impacts during the confrontation.

Security agencies have not yet released the number of casualties or further details on the ongoing rescue operation.

The ambush underscores the persistent threats faced by military personnel in the North-West and the urgency of restoring safety for abducted students.
