Panic gripped parts of Osogbo on Tuesday after a 28-year-old Cameroonian, Ondigui Nnomo Germain, fled from individuals he believed were plotting to harm him and sought refuge at the Osun Amotekun Corps headquarters.

Germain, who arrived at the security outfit’s Powerline office around 11 a.m., told operatives he had travelled to Nigeria from the Ahala Barriere area of Yaoundé in the company of a Nigerian man who promised to secure him a job.

He explained that he sold some of his belongings to raise money for the trip after his sponsor insisted he must contribute financially before the journey.

However, doubts began to arise when the man, accompanied by associates, visited him at a hotel along the Osogbo–Ikirun Road on Monday.

According to Germain, their conduct raised red flags, especially after he noticed the men appeared to have “guys everywhere,” including at the border, which made him suspect the job offer was a setup.

He recounted that he was ushered into a hotel room for what was described as an interview, only to find several men wearing rings gathered around him in a manner he described as a “voodoo circle,” with his handler being the only one without a ring.

Sensing imminent danger, he quietly slipped out of the hotel. His escape triggered a chase, as the men pursued him in a vehicle across the streets of Osogbo.

He eventually hid in an abandoned building overnight before making his way to the Amotekun gate in the early hours of Tuesday.

Speaking through a mobile translation app, he said his only desire was to return home safely.
“If you can accompany me to the border through Buea, I will be safe. They have guys along the road. I am no longer safe here,” he told Amotekun personnel.

Following the report, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, advised that the incident be formally lodged at the nearest police station.

Amotekun operatives subsequently escorted Germain to the Obelawo Police Post, where he officially documented his ordeal with law enforcement authorities
