The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of one girl and stepped up an extensive search operation for 13 others abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday in Maiduguri.
According to the PPRO, the command received a distress report from the District Head of Huyum indicating that 14 girls from Mussa District were seized by armed insurgents while working on a farm.
He said a combined team of police operatives, military troops, Civilian JTF and local vigilantes immediately mobilised to the area to commence a coordinated search-and-rescue mission.
“During the operation, one of the abducted girls managed to escape unharmed and was rescued.
“Search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining 13 abducted girls,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, urged communities to remain vigilant and work closely with security personnel as operations intensified across the affected axis.
The police boss also advised farmers and residents of rural communities to stay within areas covered by security patrols and maintain high alertness, assuring that updates on the operation would be made available as progress is recorded.
